GERMAN UNMANNED AVIATION ASSOCIATION (VUL)

The GERMAN UNMANNED AVIATION ASSOCIATION (VUL) is a joint initiative of the German Aviation Association (BDL) and the German Aerospace Industries Association (BDLI). The joint initiative primarily addresses the challenges of licensing commercially used unmanned aerial vehicles and integrating them into the existing aviation system. The safe coexistence of manned and unmanned aviation is hereby crucial. As a link between industry – startups and established companies –, economy – airports and airlines – and politics, the VUL is a major pillar in the development of the drone market in Germany.

Brandenburgische Technische Universität Cottbus – Senftenberg

For several years, the Chair of Industrial Information Technology at the Brandenburg University Cottbus-Senftenberg under the direction of Prof. Dr. Uwe Meinberg has been working on the use of unmanned aerial systems in the civil sector. In cooperation with national and international companies, scientists are focusing on the further development of sensors and carrier systems on the one hand and the development of systems for mission planning and evaluation on the other.

Leibniz-Institut für Agrartechnik und Bioökonomie e.V. (ATB)

The Leibniz Institute for Agricultural Engineering and Bioeconomics e.V. (ATB) is a nationally and internationally networked research centre at the interface of biological and technical systems. The ATB develops and integrates new technologies and management strategies for the knowledge-based, site-specific production of biomass and its use for nutrition, as bio-based products and energy sources - from basic research to application. One focus is on solutions for sensor-based local resource management in precision agriculture and horticulture. At the Marquardt site, the ATB has a modern equipped experimental station, which offers comprehensive possibilities for the development and testing of remote sensing sensors and methods on more than 20 hectares. The ATB employs approx 220 people.

TU-Chemnitz Faculty of Computer Science

The Chemnitz University of Technology in Germany is a Higher Education Institution consisting of eight faculties. The Computer Engineering Group at Chemnitz University of technology does research in the field of design methodology for hardware/software systems with the focus on partitioning the design at high abstraction levels. Additionally, the development of throughput optimized architectures, the robustness analysis in the area of safety-critical embedded systems, the automated reuse of complex modules as well as the dynamic reconfiguration of real-time systems and clusters are important topics. The research directly deals with adaptive Micro/Mini Air Vehicle (MAV) mission for optical inspections and the possibilities to use them in different civil scenarios like power pole and power pole isolator inspections. The Chemnitz University of Technology participates in a wide variety of national and international research projects which involves partners and peers from many different countries, universities and research institutions. Out of our many activities we like to point out the examples SAGITTA (http://www.dlr.de/ft/en/desktopdefault.aspx/tabid-1360/1856_read-39646/ ) and OPIRA with Airbus Defence and Space.

University of Zielona Gora Institute of Information Technology and Production Management

The Institute of Information Technology and Production Management was established in 2002. The Institute employs 23 scientific and research staff. The Institute conducts scientific research, in particular in the area of integrated management systems, modelling and knowledge management, modelling and simulation of business processes, business analytics and data processing. Development works also include integration of unmanned aerial vehicle (drones) devices with IT systems supporting their operation. The knowledge and skills of the employees allowed for the implementation of many projects and development works commissioned by the industry, both on the national and international level.

Frauenhofer IFAM

Fraunhofer IFAM is one of the most important research institutions in Europe for adhesive bonding technology, surfaces, shaping and functional materials. In the frame of quality assurance and inspection activities, UAVs provide an important potential for the optimization of such processes, especially in case of <<hard-to-access-areas>>. Therefore we are looking for the application and further development of <<mobile robotics>> in general for efficient inspection-, measurement- and repair processes in the field.
